    Original Post...early May

Mainly exercising my flag making chops, plus trying a few new techniques, here's some possible flags for your Nap entertainment endeavors. To check out this mod it must be enabled along with Gunship's newest Wargram Peninsular mod. The mod is in scenario form, look for 'A Nap Flag Demo' in User Scenarios. The scenario is just for display purposes, no scripting, but is functional.

    Nap_Flags_Set1

Flags include: French, Austrian, Russian, and Irish. Two are repetitions and two are additions that were mentioned in requests in this Nap section.

  • Many thanks, Reb. The Russian flag will particularly come in handy.

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

  • RB,

Excellent work! Our thanks. Now the fun begins...

The Russian flag would work VERY well as the 'Officer Locator' flag for our erzatz Russians. I, of course, have delved into your Mod. Can you -

    1) Make it more square and smaller?
    2) Get it on a .tga file?
    3) Get a GFX locator tag on it so we can use it in other OOBs?

Yes, I'd do it myself but don't have the ability.

    This would be outstanding!

    Thanks.

  • Fantastic work Reb, thank you very much! Is there any chance you could do an Italian flag? There are some of the fixed/non-animated ones already in the game but since I'm starting up a Peninsular Campaign and there's a couple of divisions of Itlains fighting with the French, their flags would be very useful.

  • Ha, no prob MTG, glad folks are interested.

OK, can do with those requests. I'm looking through flag histories now for the period, I'll get another set out soon. Then, probably 4 flags each for Italy and Spain. Help me decide which 4 to use as there are numerous examples as individual regiments have unique flags. Thanks for some more input and assistance... :)

There are two Westphalian flags already in the game, one for line infantry and one for guard. For all the flags take a look in the flag folder and check out the flag entries in the csv files as they are named so its obvious what they are. :)

I am also working on a full set of russian flags to go with the upcoming russian sprites.

  • Gun,

Thought you'd mentioned earlier there were Westphalian Flags in there. Haven't had a need to look...yet.

On a different note - Russian sprites and Flags??? YES!

I am currently working on a Borodino OOB, concentrating on the Russian Right Wing under Barclay de Tolly - 4 Russian Infantry Corps, (including the 5th. (Guard) Corps.) and 3 Russian Cavalry Corps. I am debating how much Artillery to give them, as in the Arty Reserve. Should work out to be about 65,000 men, more or less. The French will be Eugene's 4th. Corps d' Armee, with the 2 Divisions of Davouts attached and Grouchy's Cavalry Corps in Reserve, again about 60-65,000 men.

Question - The French Infantry had supposedly changed, in 1812, to the 1812 "Kinski" Tunic or Jacket as the new uniform. We don't have that as a sprite. Which uniform would you recommend for the French? The "original" 1809 Mod uniform with the black gaiters or the "Peninsula" Mod uniform with the long, white trousers? Either one is fine. Would like your input. (For those of you who don't know, the Kinski Tunic had a reduced or shorter tail-section to the coat, as opposed to longer tailed coat of the two previous iterations of French uniforms, holdovers from the 18th. Century. They also wore straight, full length trousers, similar to what we wear today. Ah the french...always slaves to fashion...LOL!).

I look forward to replacing my Psuedo-Russians with actual Russian sprites. :cheer:

    "Molon Labe"

    Jack B)

Note - Just finished the Russian side - 68,000 men. Not a bad guess, eh?

  • Wow, nice. Those graphics look really crisp.

hope it's accurate to the Nap era.

Sadly, it isn't, which is a great pity. It lacks the red St Patrick's cross (saltire) of Ireland which was added to the Union Flag in 1801. If you look at the Black Watch flag you'll see the difference - that one is correct. All of the British flags already in the mod have the right design too.

The source you used was from the Seven Years War era (1756-1763) and in that period the Union flag didn't have the St Patricks cross.

You're not alone and don't fell bad about it, its a mistake very often made.

Much appreciated. Was hoping the King's colors were just unique to the 57th, your research proves otherwise. Or, do you Brits just know your flags...many Americans don't know how many states (stars on the US flag) there are.
Hey, maybe these flags can serve a Seven Years War Mod, I just got it started, now, some sprites and OOBs please. :P

  • Set 3 - Naples 1800 front and back, Naples 1811, Westfalia 1st Hussars

Same scenario for demo, select French 2nd Division - GdD Honoré Théodore Maxime Gazan

TGA labeled and compressed samples are included with this download for comparison (to the left as you open the scenario). Up close you will notice the splotchy effects of TGA compression...this is why I prefer DDS. Got it Jack? Also Jack, you asked about GFX tags...HUH? Copy the name, column A in the gfx file into the oob flag column(s), save, and you're good to go.

  • RB,

Understood. I've only worked with .tga files so wouldn't have known about the .dds file flag concept. Also, have never been able to open a .dds file so have no way of knowing about them. Outstanding to be able to use your work in th rest of the Mod. Will check it out and advise, probably with screenshots. LOL!

For sure, this is why I emphasize OPTIONAL...hopefully to enhance, not replace. Gunships flag renditions are excellent, I'm just adding variety that folks can opt for.

And yes, just enable this mod with Gunship's. If you don't want to mess up the original OOBs, make an OOBs folder in this mod, copy OOBs here, replace flag names, and prioritize this mod below Gunship's...Or, rename the edited OOBs and don't worry about priority.

You did do a GFX set with TGA. You hosebag! Maybe I will load in your toolbar after all. LOL!

Also, will be posting an expanded Borodino OOB here in moments. It is the original with the Russian 5th. (Guards) Reserve Corps that I couldn't decide whether to add The French Imperial Guard or not. Didn't, BTW - went with 3 Divisions of Neys 3rd. Corps instead.

Will change ALL the Russians to REAL ones when Gunship finishes his Russian Sprite sets.

Now, off to change tons of flags and such. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ha, you're probably referring to 0gfx.csv...Delete it. I do this when experimenting with stuff and am saving the original just in case...0 is fast and easy to find and add.

Glad you're finding these flags useful, sure would hate for them to go neglected as they serve little purpose for my mods.
